Beverly Hills City Council Unanimously Approves Resolution
Condemning Islamic Republic of Iran’s Attack on Israel

Beverly Hills, Calif. – The Beverly Hills City Council on Tuesday afternoon unanimously approved a resolution condemning the Islamic Republic of Iran for last weekend’s unprecedented attack of over 300 drones and missiles launched at Israel.

“Last weekend’s attack demonstrates the continued threat that the Islamic Republic of Iran presents to the world,” said Beverly Hills Mayor Lester Friedman.  “This Council has always demonstrated its support for Israel and its right to defend itself against all forms of terrorism and aggression.  Today, we stand with the people of Iran but in opposition to the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

The City Council’s resolution condemns the “apartheid, racist, and genocidal Islamic Republic of Iran for its brutality, anti-democratic oppression of its citizens and documented human rights violations, especially against women, students, and minorities.”  It further demands increased international and domestic sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

As part of today’s action, the City Council urged elected leaders, public officials, and the international community to stand with Israel and the civilians of Iran during this critical time and to provide all necessary support to ensure the security and safety of its people.

Finally, the Resolution calls for a de-escalation of hostility in the Middle East and for peace to be brokered in the region and the release of all hostages from the October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas on Israel.
